I've been strictly bow hunting for about 12 or 13 years now and it's going to stay that way.
Who all are going to try out the straight walled cartridge rifles for deer this year I think I am going to use a 45-70

well coming from rifle bred home state
if I lived in Ohio, I would be taking advantage of the chance to use a rifle even with teh caliber's only allowed
WHY not take advantage of a range game it can allow!
NOT saying to go shoot 500 yrds(heck not even 200)
but a rifle can be fun hunting
I have been bow and rifle hunting for 30+ yrs
enjoyed them both , don't like s crowds of most rifle hunting season's
but have no issue's with using a gun
many times its a faster kill too! and in all my yrs only lost one deer with a rifle, cannot say that with the bow!
food for thought maybe!
I look at it as another reason to buy another gun so even if I don't like it I still have the gun
I am in PA and grew up hunting with a rifle. If I lived in ohio like I did for a few years I would jump all over this opportunity just because. I prefer rifle hunting to deer hunting with a shotgun.

I bought a .44 barrel for my Thompson Center Pro Hunter Muzzleloader... I am very impressed out to about 150yds. We do an annual doe hunt just to manage a large piece of property.. I think it will be perfect for that. However, killing a nice buck with a rifle would be robbing myself of the experience of getting it done with my bow. In my opinion, there is no comparison.
Mneal Having done both, I find both rewarding experience's. They are different but both are rewarding.

I have hunted deer with about every weapon legal
and I found many rifle hunts to as memorable and challanging as any bow hunt
its all in how you do things and enjoy them
more to hunting than just killing
and all the choice's are up to the hunter to decide what and how to hunt
its why so many folks hunt
nothing worng with a rifle kill, over a bow kill, or a muzzleloader/shotgun orx bow
you set the challange to your level, and meet it
thats the reward, how steep a challange you set, is you call
I certainly agree with both of you... not judging a good rifle hunt at all. I just meant that my personal preference on a mature buck would be to harvest it with my bow. Again..that is just my preference... not trying to say it should be everyones preference.
