Over-hunting and loss of habitat for this wetland-dependent species has resulted in population declines since the 1800s. However, trumpeter swan restoration and management programs that began in the mid-1900s in the U.S. and Canada gradually boosted their populations. In 1996, Ohio became one of a number of states involved in reintroduction plans to restore the swans to the Midwest. It is still state-threatened, but thanks to these restoration efforts, the trumpeter swan can be found in wetlands in northern, central, and southeastern Ohio.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/OdnrDivisionOfWildlife?d=yIl2AUoC8zA (http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/OdnrDivisionOfWildlife?a=zM8A3QmGlF4:Ca9-xcG0YgQ:yIl2AUoC8zA) http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/OdnrDivisionOfWildlife?i=zM8A3QmGlF4:Ca9-xcG0YgQ:V_sGLiPBpWU (http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/OdnrDivisionOfWildlife?a=zM8A3QmGlF4:Ca9-xcG0YgQ:V_sGLiPBpWU) http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/OdnrDivisionOfWildlife?d=qj6IDK7rITs (http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/OdnrDivisionOfWildlife?a=zM8A3QmGlF4:Ca9-xcG0YgQ:qj6IDK7rITs) http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/OdnrDivisionOfWildlife?i=zM8A3QmGlF4:Ca9-xcG0YgQ:gIN9vFwOqvQ (http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/OdnrDivisionOfWildlife?a=zM8A3QmGlF4:Ca9-xcG0YgQ:gIN9vFwOqvQ)
