Since all of my hunting equipment is getting evicted from the garage. I needed a new place to store everything. Starting this weekend I will be building a new 12x20 shed.

Yesterday the pad was poured. They did a fine job.

well now is a god time to start that, not too hot and fall is coming
I been thinking about building a shed almost the same, only 16x20 LOL
so now you have me thinking I need to get started Lol

keep us updated as the build goes too!
always nice to watch , as things get put together!

It will be a good time putting it together. I think the build on slab will be a nice touch as opposed to building on concrete blocks. My yard is not flat in that area so having someone come in and do that slab and make sure it was level saved me quite a bit of time and effort.

yeah, thats one of the things that has been holding me back, where I want to put it, there is a good 3+ft drop in the area from one end to teh other, need to bring in a bunch of stone first and then get someone to pour the slab, and its a tricky place to get a truck even close to it
so, keep saying, Next yr I will do it LOL
but it needs to be up sooner than next yr I think
never have enought storage space it seems

I had roughly 36" of drop that had to be corrected. It took two tri-axle loads of fill dirt plus digging out the top soil to get the area leveled out and looking half way decent.

mrbb
08-13-2014, 12:12 PM
sounds liek we had /have about the say pitch then LOL
and I was guessing it was going to take 30+ ton to fill it in to level as well
, I plan to use 2A stone for fill, cheaper and well, was guessing it would pack tighter and hold overall better with lots of rain and snow
I just priced it today and its 5 bucka ton, NOT counting delivery
so, will see about gtetting the project started here sooner
working on rebuilding a trailer now, waiting on an axle,
so, one thing at a time is what i SHOULD do, but who know';s

Sounds like the making of a good 'dog house' too! Wiring with electric and satellite TV?!?!

holla the electric will come later so I can avoid code inspections. I plan to build to code within reason.

Very nice, keep us posted. I'm finishing up a two-story 12x12 on my new farm, first building on the property.

Weasel that looks sharp. What are you planning on using for siding

Weasel
08-13-2014, 10:48 PM
Thanks. I went with 4x8 sheets of Hardie siding. They are traditionally hung vertically but I wanted a horizontal siding look.

The sheets overlap lengthwise but I had to glue the butt ends to seal them. Here it is with one coat of paint. I plan to sand the seams before the second coat to make them disappear.

I went with a metal roof as well. First one I ever did, was easy and turned out nice

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v85/halbleib/f71d7403-82eb-4583-b064-83f714e643ff.jpg

Eventually I plan to add wings on both sides, something like this

Looks good. I am keeping it inexpensive and simple with mine. Architectural shingles and 5/8 t1-11 at this time. Eventually I will vinyl side the shed but my wife wants it to match the house.... The house needs new siding as well so until she can decide I went the simple route.

That's a good day! Always nice to see the frame up. I built one some yrs back. I can say I wish I would have put it on concrete. Makes a world of difference. Mine was on 6x8 runners and had to be adjusted yearly from the settling or the door would stick. Looking forward to following the progress.

Thanks mike. We only had a few minor mistakes and learning areas along the way. But it went very smooth for a bunch of weekend warriors and one guy that has built a few structures here and there.

Inexpensive and simple is what I was after as well, which is why I went with the pole barn construction approach. The metal roof wasn't terribly more expensive than shingles and it won't need replaced in 30 years. You are off to a great start, it looks very nice. You will be glad you put it on a slab.

looking goo dthere Nomad
and I think almost every one that builds these days is trying to save as much as they can LOL
its a shame I think what the costs are nopw as to say just 10 yrs ago!
but what can you do, but work with the budget you have!

nomad_archer
08-17-2014, 10:19 PM
Mrbb we had plenty of budget and I always buy extra so I dont have to run out to the store when help is here.

Today we had a 3+ hour rain delay. But made good progress. Tomorrow is fascia and roofing. I don't know if I will finish the shingles but we will try.

Looking good what kind of budget do you have to have to build something like that

nomad_archer
08-18-2014, 08:43 AM
We planned 5k including the concrete with lots of wiggle room for the 12x20 shed and to close in a 4x18x8 space next to the garage. I way over bought on something's like nail gun nails. I can give more concrete numbers once I am done and extra things are returned.

mrbb
08-18-2014, 10:35 AM
i'm the same way when building things, much rather have extra's on hand
than have to make the long trips to a store and have down time
many things can be returned , but I also found many times I end up just keeping for next projects, which always seem to come up sooner or later!

Exterior grade 5/8" t1-11. It will get a coat or two of stain then i will trim out the building.

Alright update time. I got the roof finished finally and did the framing for my wife's 18x4 garage overhang shed.

Back to running t1-11 tomorrow and building doors.

I have 9 7 to12 hour days in with some help from family and friends.

Built and temporarily hung the door on the garage shed and replaced the triangle of rotted wood that was by the truss.
