I'm getting some trail cam pics of some bucks here in alabama. I was wondering if you can tell how big a buck is gunna be this early in season?
in my opinion, the answer is NO, what they are now and what they will end up being many times can be a coin toss of sorts
they have been known to grow up to an inch a day in altler, or as little as a 1/16 of an inch
what they eat, minerals quality of food, how much energy it takes for them to live every day, stress
gene's all come into play
general rule of thumb is IF there BIG now, and I have seen many 8 point plus bucks this time of yr over the yrs, odds are they will continue to be a very good buck come fall
but its NOT a 100 % deal maker just cause theer BIG now
a lack of rain, food, an injury NOW can all slow or stop good growth
its mayeb part of the fun to me, seeing what one will turn into come fall
if I knew for sure it would be "X" size
I don't think hunting would be as much fun
I like seeing main frame bucks, turn into some added junk come fall or, being impressed or no some times come fall
not knowing is the thrill at times for me anymore!

I agree with you mrbb I have had a 10 point still be a 10 point with not a lot more growth and had some smaller deer turn into something that wasn't expected just watch them grow and see what turns out
