This is a pretty drastic reduction in my county... not saying I disagree with it based on this years numbers.

I'm glad they did away with the antlerless permit for Meigs County. Hopefully that will help slow down the killing but I doubt it. Worst year in many years for deer sightings.

Those are some big changes. Hopefully ODNR I doing the right thing to get or keep the deer population healthy.. We'll see in a couple years

I haven't hunted any of these counties (that aren't allowing the antler less tags next year) for a few years but the last time I did hunt down there the population was incredible. I assume they have really cut the herd back?!
Also I read an article that mentioned they are investigating the possibility of allowing rifles that have straight walled cartridges next year. Like the 45-70 for instance.

That's pretty silly to limiting rifles to straight walled cartridges. Its really an all or nothing proposition for rifles really.

I agree but it's simply allowing people to use a long gun version of the already legal hand gun version for the most part.

But the long gun version of handgun cartridges changes the game quite a bit

Somewhat I agree. Accuracy is improved but efficiency is about the same. Today's muzzleloaders are likely more efficient and these straight walled cartridges for the most part aren't even close compared to anything from a .243 to a 300 Win Mag. I'd say though that it won't mean people will be going out in droves to buy these guns when there are so many other options they likely are already using. Not to mention it's only a week long gun season.

Very true. But velocity wise something like a 45-70 with a 350 grain bullet will have a max velocity of 2200 fps where as a comparable 30-06 with a 220 grain bullet will get about 2400-2500 fps max however most people hunt deer with 150 to 180 grn bullets from a 30-06 which opens up velocity into the 2600-3000fps range. So with heavier bullets there isnt much difference but most people arent using a 220grn 30-06 bullet. I dont think people will really bother much since a rifled slug barrel will on todays shotguns is more than plenty for up to a 200 yard shot most people aren't accurate much past 100 yards though so with a lot of words I am agreeing with you.

Yep, I'd say if the gun season were a lot longer or if there were additional seasons where one could get some use out of one then maybe there would be a little rush to it. Perhaps over time people will 'upgrade' their guns or as new hunters get started they may elect to go this route. The tried and true already have their baby they like to tote into the woods, be it shotgun or muzzy.
