OK so was at the farm yesterday, to top dess a few spots where my buddy missed on the food plots

so, took the ATV for a ride about the place and found a BIG ass sink hole in the pond, that must have opened up maybe Sunday, as it was draining FAST, so couldn't have been there long
made some phone calls, trying to get a dump truck and a loader, to try to plug the hole up before the pond drained(5+ acre pond, well stocked with fish too)
guy says will be there tomorrow, thus today
I was there all day, pond was about 50% drained by 1 pm, time he was supposed to be there
waited all day, guy never showed up, pond is a mud pit now, almost NO water, dead flopping fish all over, a total wipe out, talk about sucks
I took a few pic's of the sink hole, but not the dry pond by 7 pm, too many bugs and too hot, and pissed off
Guy called me at 7:30, saying got tied up, and will be there tomorrow morning
well Crap, tomorrow is too late I say, BUT, still need to plug the hole, as it is spring feed by several springs, will fill again in time, but, lost the fish for sure!

so I lost a pond today, it has has never been low more than a few feet since the 60's when it was built
talk a bout a crappy day
here is the sink hole, 8-10 ft deep, 3-4 ft across and sucking water and fish out like mad
\ even worse the creek it is leaking into is so shallow right now the fish dumping into it cannot even live there sticking out of the water on there sides??

also had to chain saw down a whole bunch of trees too to make room for a loader to get close to it, only good part is I have about 100 ton of rocks on site in piles to use as fill!!, yrs of rock picking the main fields over the yrs and piling them up!

sink hole is where the shade is, but under the road, the road sank about 5 ft where the water is running under it, never was water there before this either??

I was going to ask if it had a under ground spring that could have washed it out but I see that it does that just sucks

that's funny, as the all the springs are about 200+ yrds away from this hole or more
its spring feed by 3 small creeks, and back in the 60's before DEP had rules, was built over a swamp, dug out and then dammed up
was the last thing I was expecting when I found it yesterday, I mean this pond was never ever low, never mind empty in almost 60+ yrs
,I simply went to touch up a food plot and check cam's and BOOM, a sink hole
never seems to be a shortage of ways to spend money these days
almost hit a bear today too, yesterday had a small one get startled and run out of the corn and just miss me, and today I had a bigger one, get caught up in a fence while I was driving by, and about ran me over dragging part of the fence
Them bears are amizing strong I tell you, funny at time,'s too
but felt bad, poor sucker, must have hurt to ram into a steel wire fence and then drag part of uit down pulling nails out at it went
about 6 ft from me at first
what a day

Wow that sucks big time. That must be one huge underground sink hole to be able to take that much water without filling up. Around me I found a sink hole a few years ago in Hershey PA that only had a 9" surface opening but that sucker was 20' deep and 10' wide

its a about 3-4 ft across, and I know it goes down about 8-10 ft, as its runs under ground about 20-25 yrds and exits on the side of a band on a local crek, where the banck is about 10 ft down, and its been eroading a tunnel from pond to creek now under ground, and sinking the top down
Workers are still running Late, and its raining now
wish they would get here, the rain is free water right now, IF it was plugged up ?
what can you do, nature has powerful ways of changing the landscape that's for sure

well got the pond sealed up again
got there this morning, and a dam second sink hole opend up, about 10 ft from this one, apparently the first one caved in over nite and plugged it mostly, and the second one opened up, there was still a little water left but not much

took 6 tri axle truck of rocks and dirt to plug up the hole and fix the cave in on the road, and to be honest, if the workers wern't in such a hurry to leave, I would have liked one more load to get it a little higher, as I know its going to settle as time and rains goes by, but they were in a rush job
Hate working with floks like that, half ass things too much
but NOW to see how long it holds and how long till it fills back up main feeder spring runs pretty fast so, hoping a week or less, but thats a lot of water to fill back in!
