well about 2 weks ago, I sprayed down my fall plot sites, had plans to take some pic's before spraying, ut forgot camera
so today I managed to get away to start disking the site up, and again Planned to take some before pic's
and again forgot the dam Camera?? Dam memory is slipping!
But I turned over about 3/4's of the sites, some the grass was just so think, I need to burn it off, before turning over the ground, too windy today for that
But I spent about 4 hrs on the tractor, and it was crazy
I had deer all about me the whole time, it was like they just wanted to watch me work, I was able to drive to about 10 ft of them, and they never even ran once, just stand there and let me drive by
and I am not talking just small young der, I had some BIG 3-4 yr old bucks, just watching me the whole time
Must know I am the guy that feeds them so well, and wanted to see what I am planting!
as of right now, I'm not 100% sure what I am planting, but odds are it will be a brassicia/turnip type seed
maybe some clover and chicory too! will see
still work to do before I decided!
will take some pic's next trip to the farm, leftput a camera in my truck and leaving it there till I do! LOL
But the season is getting closer
was just 48 degree's the other morning here!

Looking forward to seeing some pics. I broadcasted some turnips and beets into my soybeans around Labor Day and I got a new plot cleared and seeded to winter oats on the 15th.

well , I had about the worse take ever on a planting, well, not all my fault, the guy I let hunt here offered to get the seeds for my fall planting, and he cheaped out big time on me, he bought sedds that were severeal yrs old, some like 4+ yrs old off a feed store that had them
I added new inocculant, hoping some would grow, and well, I kinda let it go, so he can see how being cheap about it can mean less food for the deer, some guys just don't get it, so they need to see it with there own eyes
that said
90% of the seeds he bought didn't take at all
I sucked it up and went and bought some trunip seeds and rape seeds
and just re-seeded about 50% of the area , I turned over for the fall plantings
I should have known better and just bought it all like I normally do
but was trying to make a point, and only screwed myself LOL
so right now I have Some coming up, and a maybe good or bad, I have a bunch of grass and weeds in about 40% of all I turned over mixed in with the turnips and rape I planted
I plan to get some more clover seeds and seed the rest of the spots that are still dirt, just hoping to help prevent soil loss from nothing being there!
MY corn is still looking great, and even maybe better my soybeans are still full of beans, but sure they will get sucked down as time goes by
will try to get some pic;s this week, also building a new deer blind, so wil take some pic's of that once all done and set up

That's unfortunate about the old seed. Hopefully the new stuff you planted will do well. Our beans were put in late but man are they loaded with pods. I expect them to be harvested pretty late, well into archery season so hopefully that will be enough to keep the deer around. The trail cams have showed good activity. I've kept the feeder, minerals and supplements going all summer too so that should help. Keep me posted on the deer blind. I'm designing one for my 63 year old diabetic father to get in and out of easily. He's still in pretty good shape but his feet bother him sometimes so I'm thinking of having a ramp or something instead of steps/ladder.

The turnips and beets are coming up nicely and how they end up depends on how much longer the weather holds. Hope to get a little more top growth out of them. The oats have germinated but this was a heavy broadcast of old seed with little soil prep. I'm not expecting much but I didn't expect to have a plot cleared this year anyhow. I'll frost seed it to clover in the spring.

I've also been busy getting a pier foundation in for a two story barn. This will be the first building on the new farm and I chose this style so I could have storage on the first floor and living quarters on the second. Hope to have it weather tight before winter.

OK so was down the farm today, put up two more ladderstand today, and while I was there took a few updated pic's of my fall plots
as you can see there green, but not doing as good as they should be, by now they should be about 2 ft tall, and as is, maybe 6-8 inches at most
and lots of missed spots, hunting buddy bought cheap outdated seeds, 3+ yrs old outdated and screwed me a little
so I re-seeded very late into planting time, and then a few weeks of no rain didn't help
so my green plots are piss poor this yr
this first pic's is of my beans, well one of the plots, and its still looking great, turning brown now, but full of pods!

Thanks, I have way too many happy deer, lol, wish I had less

Maybe then I would get better takes, or at least plots would last longer, they have the brassicia eaten to the ground in most places as of today, so doubt there going to be so good come hunting season, or for sure the rut!
Oh well, I plant it for them to eat, so got that part right, just wish it lasted for a fews of hunting too! Lol
