OK wounded deer??

OK now over the yrs I have killed a lot of deer that were wounded
when I was a small kid, before I started hunting, I used to go out in the snow after gun season and track deer and almost every yr I would find blood trails and thus find wounded or dead deer.
many times I would even do this in deer season as I got older, and then when I would find one,still alve, I would find a hunter and have them come kill it/tag it
have taken part in maybe about 15 kills this way over the yrs as a kid

every yr since then, I have still found wounded deer or live ones wounded every yr, and countless dead one's

over the yrs after I started hunting, I have many times had a wounded deer come out by me, while hunting and I have always tried my best to put them down, even if it meant using my only buck tag on a small buck, thus taking out my only chance at a buck I wanted/or hoped for!
a few times over the yrs I have actually called the sate in and was even given a new tag for shooting the deer due to how damaged it was when I killed it, had this happen on out of state hunts more than my own state???
But it just always seemed like the right thing to do!
and on a scary note for me now, it seems like almost every deer I kill anymore here where I hunt in PA
has a bullet wound anymore, or a slug in it? even deer that seem healthy, once that hide comes off they all have bullet
or arrow/broadhead wounds in them, or slugs!
I have also shot some that I believe had been hit by cars, as broken bones that had healed up or were still broken!

SO how many others here have tagged a wounded deer because it was wounded??

or found a slug or arrow/broadhead in them??
Just wondering how common this is??

I have killed wounded deer and used my tags for them probably 5 or 6 times over the years. Two of them were bucks the rest does. If I see anything wounded going through the woods even if it's not a deer I put it down as long as it's legal just so they don't have to suffer the winter and or being killed and eaten by the yotes. Ohio

Many seasons ago, I had a bleeding doe come tearing by my stand, approximatly 4 inchs of snow on the ground. watched her dissapear into a thicket area down by my creek. Sat in my stand for 3 hours until legal time was up. Still no one tracking her. Ended up following a major blood trail right to her. She had gone to the creek and died. I backtracked the blood and tracks to the power lines where my property line cuts through where I found 2 gutpiles laying. Not on my property!! It was shotgun season, so I am assuming this doe got hit maybe in the flurry of gunfire, and nobody knew it, or they just didnt want to retrieve because they had two down already. Never will know. Needless to say, I put a landowner tag on that one and it became freezer filler. We do know of a Doe with just three legs....and she is doing just fine! Actually really suprising how she is able to move around, and she is very healthy. We have glassed her many times, and its kinda funny, she actually will forget she has no leg and you will see her shoulder muscle go to put the leg down and she has to catch her balance. If she was sickly and in dire needs, i would put her down, but if I lose a leg or arm I still want a fighting chance.

Years ago my dad and I walked up on a buck my cousin had shot. He hit it a bit far back and would never have found it as far as it traveled. We kept it down and he tagged it. Other than that never found a wound or anything definite like that on a deer I have killed.

A few seasons ago I had a doe with a badly broken leg that was just flopping around that i had tried to kill so she didn't have to suffer. I just never got the opportunity... then the next year she mothered twins and again the year after and that was the last year i saw her... A deers will to survive , their toughness, and ability to overcome injuries just blows my mind some times...
That Being Said... I would certainly give up a tag to put down a wounded animal if given the chance. I think it is not only the right thing to do It's our obligation as hunters. Lets face it, We truly care more about our deer heard and the critters running around our necks of the woods than even the PETA nuts, and especially more than the idiots wounding deer with a .22!!! so, for me, It's just the only thing to do when faced with opportunity...
It's unfortunate to hear that you have had to deal with this so often and reading the story of the buck you just killed with the .22 rounds in it made me furious! But, I salute you for doing the right thing! It's too bad you have to clean up the mess that other jerks in your area create by committing such unethical acts! It's those few Jerks that give us as Hunters a bad name and public image! Sad but, something I am afraid may never be completely resolved...
